Bringing Diversity and Change to the Modern Corporation

Imagine running a consulting company that goes into medium and large sized corporations and attempts to bring diversity understanding to the inside, while removing glass ceilings? Not an easy job is it? Not long ago, I had the opportunity to interview such an expert consultant and asked the following questions.
So, do those in the companies fight like dogs to keep their fiefdoms, as you tear down the old to build the new – resistant to change.
Consultant; Absolutely, you’d be amazed to the resistance to change.
Do they originally see you as a terrorist or a guerrilla style attacker of their status quo?
Consultant; Yes, even those that hired our firm to come in, those whose idea it was to bring us there in the first place.
Then there is the issue of ego to deal with and you are the outsider right?
Consultant; Yes, ego is a huge part of it.
Wow, I guess I can see how the unraveling of the toxic corporate cults can be at issue. As a branding type, there is a need for the brand to stand for something within the organization, a mission statement, and that brand will resonate with consumers in their own ways.
When everyone is on the same page it is amazing what can be done in an organization, sounds like a challenge to keep the momentum and force everyone to change their thinking, not that it shouldn’t be changed, it’s just you know, people pretend to want change then resist it tooth and nail.
Consultant; It has been an eye-opener, you’d be blown away, but in the end it generally works out find, it’s just a matter of bringing people together.
