Poon Hill Trekking

Poon Hill Trekking is a popular trekking route located in the Annapurna region of Nepal. This is a relatively short trek that offers stunning views of the Himalayas, including majestic peaks like Annapurna and Dhaulagiri.

Period:

The trip usually takes around 4-5 days, depending on your speed and route. However, you can customize the duration according to your preference.

Difficulty level:

The Poon Hill Trek is considered a moderate trek, suitable for both beginners and experienced hikers. The trail involves walking on a variety of terrain, including uphill and downhill sections, but does not require any technical climbing skills.

Strength:

The main highlight of the Poon Hill Trek is reaching Poon Hill itself, which is famous for its beautiful sunrises and panoramic views of the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri mountains. The trail passes through beautiful villages inhabited by the Gurung and Magar ethnic communities, allowing you to experience their unique culture and hospitality. You’ll also encounter lush forests, terraced fields, and azaleas (in spring) along the way.

Starting point:

The trip usually starts in Nayapul, a few hours’ drive from Pokhara. You will need to apply for the necessary permits, such as the Annapurna Conservation Area Permit (ACAP) and (TIMS) map, before starting the trip.

Accommodation:

There are teahouses and guesthouses along the trail, providing simple but comfortable accommodation and meals. These facilities provide a warm and friendly atmosphere for hikers.

Best time for Poonhill trekking:

The best times to do the Poon Hill trek are spring (March to May) and fall (September to November). These months have clear skies, favorable weather conditions and great views that enhance your climbing experience. However, the trip can be done year-round, with each season offering its own unique charm.

Poonhill trekking Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Kathmandu

Arrive at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu. Transfer to your hotel and rest. Explore the vibrant streets of Thamel, a popular tourist area in Kathmandu.

Day 2: Kathmandu to Pokhara (820m)

Take a scenic drive or a short domestic flight from Kathmandu to Pokhara, the gateway to the Annapurna region. Explore the beautiful lakeside city of Pokhara and enjoy the views of the Annapurna range.

Day 3: Pokhara to Tikhedhunga (1,540m)

Drive to Nayapul (1-2 hours) and start your trek.Trek through terraced fields, forests, and traditional villages. Reach Tikhedhunga and rest for the night.

Day 4: Tikhedhunga to Ghorepani (2,860m)

Begin your day with a steep ascent to Ulleri village. Continue trekking through rhododendron and oak forests. Reach Ghorepani, a beautiful village known for its panoramic views.

Day 5: Ghorepani to Poon Hill (3,210m) to Tadapani (2,630m)

Early morning hike to Poon Hill to witness a stunning sunrise over the Himalayas.

Enjoy breathtaking views of mountains like Dhaulagiri and Annapurna. Descend back to Ghorepani and have breakfast.Trek to Tadapani through lush forests.

Day 6: Tadapani to Ghandruk (1,940m)

Trek through a dense forest of rhododendron and oak trees. Descend to Ghandruk, a beautiful Gurung village with traditional houses and rich culture. Explore the village and enjoy the mountain views.

Day 7: Ghandruk to Nayapul and Pokhara

Descend to Nayapul, passing through terraced fields and villages. Reach Nayapul and drive back to Pokhara. Enjoy a relaxing evening in Pokhara and celebrate the completion of your trek.

Day 8: Pokhara to Kathmandu

Travel back to Kathmandu by road or air. Rest and explore the city. Visit UNESCO World Heritage sites like Pashupatinath Temple or Boudhanath Stupa.

Day 9: Departure from Kathmandu

Depart from Kathmandu with wonderful memories of the Poon Hill Trek. Please note that this is a general itinerary and can be customized based on your preferences, fitness level, and time available. It offers a unique and novel experience, combining beautiful scenery, diverse flora and fauna and beautiful mountain scenery.
